Proposal to relocate Pontesbury Library to a new Community Hub on Hall Bank, Pontesbury

The Pontesbury Library Steering Committee would like the opinion of residents in and around the Pontesbury area, on a proposal to move the library from its current location in Bogey Lane, Pontesbury, to a new community hub at Hall Bank, Pontesbury.

The community hub will be located next to a retail outlet and the children’s nursery, and there will be parking available. Shropshire Homes has included plans for the community hub at Hall Bank, Pontesbury development (Planning application ref: 17/05554/FUL), which it has agreed to build for the community.

As public sector budgets decrease, services will inevitably become limited.  Sharing a new purpose-built centre can protect the services that matter to residents. If the proposal is supported by the community, it will offer opportunities for grant funding and income generation, and allow the provision of a sustainable library in the long term, along with other community activities.

The Steering Committee’s vision is to work towards a sustainable option for the library and community services in Pontesbury, Minsterley, Worthen & the surrounding area. It believes that this can be achieved through the development of a hub of community services that are welcoming and accessible, provides advice and information, and a safe space for all.

Pontesbury Library Steering Committee includes representatives from Friends of Pontesbury Library, together with Pontesbury, Minsterley and Worthen with Shelve Parish Councillors, local Shropshire Councillors, Shropshire Council officers and members of the local police teams.
